Nairobi Kenya Travel Guide and Information

If you are going to Kenya as a tourist, you probably have not planned a stop in Nairobi. Kenya is one of the best destinations in Africa for safari, beautiful scenery, hiking and trails and much more. I have not yet had the opportunity to know the charms of Kenya, but I had the pleasure of getting to know its capital: Nairobi .

You can deduce that I went to work again, but I stayed there for 15 days, so I went out to explore the city over the weekend. To my astonishment, I have seen that Nairobi is a vibrant and very cosmopolitan city.

It is also a city of many economic contractors - attention and care are never too much trouble. Do not be surprised by the constant magazines of the cars, after a terrorist attack to the American consulate in 1998, the security in the establishments was redoubled, so when entering by car (taxi) anywhere (shopping, hotel, etc) it is necessary to stop the car , open the trunk and undergo an inspection.

Basic Information for going to Kenya

Entry Requirements in Brazil (for Brazilians) - You must have a visa to enter Kenya. This visa can be obtained upon arrival in Kenya, it is the so-called "landing visa" - that is, a visa when you "land". It works like this, you get off the plane, and before you go to the treadmill to pick up your suitcase, you pass on immigration, you pay and you issue the visa on time. Have US dollars (USD) in hand. Take about 100 USD. Also have some 3 × 4 photos in hand.

The CIV (International Vaccine Certificate) is not requested, but it is recommended to have it, as it is mandatory in other African countries that may be scale / passage - such as South Africa.

Language - The official language of the country are Swahili and English, the population also uses their traditional African languages. But as a tourist, you will not have problems with English, it is widely spoken.

Airlines - There are not direct flights from Brazil to Nairobi. The best option is to go through Johannesburg by flying South African Airways  or LATAM. Other flight options are a bit inconvenient, such as stopovers in Europe or Dubai. The national company is Kenya Airways , which makes flights to Europe, Asia, the Middle East in addition to international flights in Africa and local flights .

Money - The local money is called "Shillings" (symbol: KES). It is possible to exchange dollars for shillings at the hotel. Credit card is accepted in many establishments.

Electricity - Outlets are 240V and Type G (English standard).

Food - Eat only cooked foods, avoid raw vegetables and veggies. Wash the fruits well with soap and water, but prefer fruit with barks such as banana and gossip. Try to drink only bottled mineral water, preferably with gas.

Phone - It is possible to buy a SIM card without difficulties, Cellular Operators are: Safaricom, Essar, Orange and Airtel.

Where to stay in Nairobi

The Nairobi transit is one of the worst I've ever seen, adding to the excess of cars the lack of infrastructure and disrespect for traffic laws - and the result is disastrous. Thinking about it, if you're going to work, stay close to it, and if you're on a tour, avoid peak times.

I stayed at the Silver Springs . The hotel is simple but comfortable. It is well located, has air conditioning, pool and free internet. It has a gym, but I did not know because I needed to pay 19 USD per day of use (you have to have a lot of desire to spend to work, right?). I can say that I would recommend and stay again, I just do not recommend the restaurant.

Nakuru - It is the most famous place in nairobi to stay. You can stay in Nakuru and see some best places like nakuru lake, nakuru nation park etc.
Nairobi National Park

Southern Sun Mayfair Nairobi - Southern Sun is a large hotel chain in Africa - so staying in it has no error.

In Nairobi you also have other major network like Hilton and Crowne Plaza if they are accessible to your pocket.

Visit to the Basilica of the Holy Sepulcher - Jerusalem

Do you know those travel lists (of the type: 10 places to know before you die) with the most amazing places that people do and share on facebook? Yeah ... Israel was one of the places among the top of my list. I like Jerusalem most because this place is simply awesome and have great adventures, historical experience. Peoples who love travelling they should definitely plan a trip to jerusalem this year.

And despite all the tension we feel, especially when we enter the fire area (because of the GPS, which indicated the shortest route ... but this is subject to another post), the trip was unforgettable. We visit the country from north to south, from east to west, by rental car ... and believe me: it was one of the most incredible adventures in jerusalem of all we ever lived.
And Jerusalem was without a doubt the icing on the cake.
Jerusalem is a kind of "oasis" of tranquility amid all the tension in the rest of the country, being considered a sacred place for the three religions - Christians, Jews and Muslims. There, despite having "territories" defined, Jews and Muslims live in a regime of mutual tolerance.
And it is within the mordern Jerusalem that is the Old City, or Old City, stage of very important events for the three great religions present there. The visit to the Old City provokes emotions and reflections. And you certainly will not get out of there the same way you entered.
Surrounded by an immense wall, the Old City is divided between the Arab, Armenian, Christian and Jewish districts. In it is concentrated a large part of the religious attractions of Jerusalem, as well as an endless labyrinth of corridors with shopping and dining options.
To reach the Basilica of the Holy Sepulcher, we enter the Old City by the Gate of Damascus and look for Via Dolorous. According to Christian tradition, the Via Dolorosa was the path traveled by Jesus when he carried the cross to Calvary.
